Bong-Ra Vs King Cannibal

KING CANNIBAL POSTS…

Don’t forget kids… My ‘All Of The Colours Of The Night’ EP is now out digitally. Vinyl should be hitting shelves very very shortly.

King Cannibal – All The Colours Of The Night EP

KING CANNIBAL SAYS…

If you head over to Ad Noiseam you can preview and pre-order tracks from my forthcoming E.P – Al The Colours Of The Night.

Get your business face on with a slice of the official info below – more of which can be found at http://www.adnoiseam.net/adn140. The Machine Code remix of Dirt (Mary Anne Hobb’s set opener for her recent U.S tour, Sonar & Boiler Room shows) is the first part of a remix swap between Dead Rodell, Current Value & Myself, the second part being my remix of User Error which is featured on CD2 of the Machine Code album.

 by krumble the Discobreaker

“The night has roared, and now has many colours and shades on King Cannibal’s most varied record to date. From this established producer’s insidious remix of Bong-Ra’s “Come Out To Play” or Machine Code’s anthemic and furious version of “Dirt” to the more laid back and melodic remixes by Krumble and Dead Fader, this EP is an accurate snapshot of what King Cannibal is about: not only can he pack a dancefloor, but he also delivers gentle tunes or impressive beatwork. King Cannibal has a posse, an untamed, diverse one.(get this on 12″ / as digital files)”

King Cannibal – Aragami Style… The Teknoist Remix

Ad Noiseam,  I hope you are used to that label name as it will be getting used around here a fair bit in the near future.

Miike Teknoist contacted me last year about putting together a remix of Aragami Style, i think originally planned as part of a mix cd. I’m happy to say the release has found a home in the form of The Teknoist’s  new album ‘Trainwreck  Magnetism‘ which is available on Ad Noiseam. A tightly clenched fist of an album containing original solo tracks and remixes. Mu-Ziq, Drumcorps Hecq & Exillion also get the Trainwreck treatment. As said on the press release “The Teknoist drives one of his main points home again: however hard his music might be, it’s a world apart from just throwing fast beats around, but requires a lot of open mindedness and care. ”

Available on both CD and digital download NOW

“The Teknoist is back, and he has a posse. “Trainwreck Magnetism” not only gathers the newest composition by one of the rare musicians who can combine the words “breakcore” and “pristine”, but also his remixes for high profile friends such as Drumcorps, King Cannibal, Hecq and others. It’s hard (very), sometimes dark, often angry, but also particularly varied. A highly rewarding album which satisfy both the urge to thrash around and the need for carefully crafted music, The Teknoist’s new full-length is another crown for this pillar of the breakcore and hardcore sounds.”

Video Horror Show

KING CANNIBAL SHARES…

Whilst browsing Diabolikdvd i stumbled across a strange looking VHS titled Video Horror Show Vol.2, a product boasting to be a 15 min witch house track created as an original score for this haunted tape, on blue vhs no less. What can i say, i was drawn to digging out more.

http://videohorrorshow.com/ are behind these superb limited tapes, Each seeming to be different exercises of cutting up all kinds of visual dark matter and pairing the footage which a variety of aural sludge (and i say that in total compliment) focussing on an act per tape. Think of them as in home installations, designed to make your TV twist and moan like it was in Videodrome. These make great companions with last year’s Jigoku by Lovely Jon and The Cherrystones, more focussed on italian bloodlust, goats and Barbara Bouchet than the Clouzot kinetic art and vintage  region 3 of Jigoku.

This speaks to us here at Godsofwar on all levels so we URGE to investigate and CONSUME. They have a membership option allowing a year’s subscription over on their site http://videohorrorshow.com , or you can still pick up The Five Wounds

Remixes update… Scorn and Robot Koch

KING CANNIBAL SAYS..

A little update on other releases aside of The Way Of The Ninja.

Scorn – Super Mantis (King Cannibal Remix) : Combat Recordings 12″ & Digital Download out now.

Constructed in my pre-Ninja Tune days (checking the original file name it was labelled ‘ZILLA’ remix – which must make this the last thing i did still using that name. It was an honour to tackle the proto bass music pioneer.
V/A – Friends Of Friends Volume 3 (FoF) : 12″ & Digital Download out now.
Including Robot Koch Ft Jahcoozi – Overnight (King Cannibal Remix)

L.A. based Friends Of Friends releases the third of its on-going split release series. Jahcoozi’s Robot Koch and Mexicans With Guns are the two artists heading up this volume.
King Cannibal & Sasha Perera hook up once again!

Coincidentally much like my work on our first hook up, this one fell after a trip to Berlin, hooking up with Jahcoozi’s gifted front woman Sasha Perera and a night out at the Berghain (which this time i was lucky enough to be playing at).  So much like ‘Murder Us’ this continues the dark house/techno sound, this time a little looser and a lot more closer and darker in feel. Please note that this remix is only on the digital package. Other remixes on the release come care of Alex B, Free the Robots, Mux Mool, Salva and Lunice.
Look out for forthcoming remixes of Machine Code, Memory 9 and more…

Amon Tobin – Bloodstone King Cannibal Remix teaser

KING CANNIBAL SAYS…

From CD4 of The Ninja XX Compilation here is a big chunk of my reworking of Amon Tobin’s Bloodstone, out 20th September. I’m really really happy with it, and happy it finally made it on to the compilation as it became i bit of a fight for it making the final cut (which is often going to be a struggle with a project this size). I’m sure this will be familiar to people at my recent shows.

Friends Of Friends Vol.3

KING CANNIBAL SAYS…

L.A based Friends Of Friends releases a third of its on-going split release series. Jahcoozi’s Robot Koch and Mexicans With Guns are the two artists heading up this volume. I was approached to contribute a remix of Overnight just before my return trip to Low End Theory (and what a night that was) after Jahcoozi’s guest appearance on my track Murder Us. Coincidentally much like my work on our first hook up, this one fell after a trip to Berlin, hooking up with Jahcoozi’s gifted front woman Sasha Perera and a night out at the Berghain (which this time i was lucky enough to be playing at).  So much like Murder Us this continues the dark house / techno sound, this time a little looser  and a lot more intimate in sound. The release is out  October 5th, but you can preview a slice of my remix below followed by the full tracklisting.

Also both myself and mr Robot Koch are appearing  in Birmingham on July 30th, alongside Illum Sphere at Under The Counter.

Crackdown 2

KING CANNIBAL SAYS….

I’m happy to say that my fist slice of video game music is out now! I won’t go in to the specifics of Crackdown 2, the X-Box game itself but the tracklisting is notable indeed. The Bug, El-B, Dan The Automator and plenty more tackle punk & alt classics such as Public Enemy, The Damned, 7 Seconds and The Afflicted. A Full tracklisting can be found HERE. I’ve uploaded a snippet of my first version of the Smash It Up remix,  the final version on the release is v.5 and was boiled down to keep drop outs to a minimum as well as a ton of breaks added. I do still really like this initial version still, hence me wanting people to hear it. Also this sort of thing may shed a little light on the process involved in working in this environment, as i say i completed 5 versions before Microsoft felt like it was 100% correct for the game and scene it features in. I did also attempt a remix of The Afflicted’s ‘Here Come The Cops’ and have to congratulate El-B on being able to work with the source material.   Aragami Style & A Shining Force also feature in game.

The Damned – Smash It Up, King Cannibal Remix v.1 by King Cannibal 3

NINJA TUNE XX

KING CANNIBAL SAYS…. “Twenty years! Twenty fu*king years!? That’s a long time for anything, but for an independent record label it’s aeons. So yes, we are going to make a fuss. Yes, we are going to celebrate.” For the announcement of Ninja’s impending 20 year birthday i’ve put together a few mixes to accompany trailers. You might be forgiven for not noticing my involvement as my name hasn’t been creditted to them.  The first was a 30 second megamix (which stretched out to being 39 seconds… my bad) which i did going in blind – i hadn’t seen any visuals by then and they were then placed over the mix and used as an initial teaser trailer…

The Second and newest mix that accompanied the press announcement of the Ninja Tune XX boxset and launch of the website . On this occasion i had the video and a mix already existing for it, and  job was to create a new mix, better hooked in with the visuals. Working this way worked a lot more in my favour allowing me to hook events in the video together with the audio which i think makes for a better trailer.

Let The Night Roar Official Album Launch

KING CANNIBAL SAYS…

This is going to be a big one, with a special 2 hour set from myself showcasing the best of the album, its influences and a few brand new works i’ve yet to play out (yup, album 2 material on the first album’s launch party) All this alongside Coldcut’s Jon More, new Big Dada signing Offshore and a certain other (very quiet) God Of War. Its going to be a deep dark event.

Plastic People isn’t the biggest of venues and a certain amount of the door will be held back for press & industry folks so PLEASE if you want to go i’d advise booking NOW to avoid disappointment.

You can grab your tickets at this link

Check out the Facebook event here

Free Frankmusik – King Cannibal Remix Download

KING CANNIBAL SAYS…

Well another week, another remix has hit the skids.

I’m pretty gutted my remix of Frankmusik’s 3 Little Words isn’t going to get a release due to the whole single being scrapped. Despite it being very much a remix of a VERY poppy song, and a VERY poppy remix at that, i’m still really proud of it (this may raise a chuckle but i’m really happy with my hand clap production on this!). I’ve spoken before about the sound of a quality producer and how it should run much deeper than a single genre, and this was something that i very much kept in mind when working on this.  Another reason I’m disappointed is that its also my first venture in to working with drum & bass on a very typical level in terms of genre constraints, which is why i’ve attained permission to offer this out for a freedownload as a Wav file on the link below. Enjoy.

http://www.ninjatune.net/secure.php?id=8T1ZK1LL

On a side note i don’t even have any of the promo cds sent out, so if anyone happens to have a spare copy please let me know.

DJ Food – The Shape of Things That Hum EP Soundcloud Promo

KING CANNIBAL SAYS…

Audio from the forthcoming Dj Food’s ‘The Shape Of Thing That Hum’ EP is now up on Soundcloud. The release is out on December the 14th,so in the meanwhile get your ears round these. This is even more noteworthy as i was on mixing duties for the lead track  Sentinal (Shadow Guard).

Strictly Kev himself says…. “Here are 3 tracks from my next EP, streamable via Soundcloud – there 5 tracks in all with a further 3 remixes on the download. Sentinel is a collaboration with DK and GIANT is a cover of The The without the vocal which will be added to a remixed version on the album.

Zurich

From Spykidelic:

Coming November on Important: “Limiited edition of 500 copies pressed at RTI and packaged in heavy duty jackets screen printed at Monoroid. Featuring Tony F Wilson (Spykidelic/Knives ov Resistance), Neil Halstead (Slowdive/Mojave 3), & Sarah Peacock (Seefeel). Zurich began as a 1994 musical partnership between Neil Halstead then of Slowdive and Tony F Wilson. The two recorded a handful of tracks when Halstead was shortly to begin work on Slowdive’s final and most experimental album Pygmalion. Recorded at a time when the popularity of ambient techno was at its peak, these recordings are remarkably austere by comparison. Following the release of Pygmalion, Halstead would disband Slowdive and abandon sound experimentation to create more song-based material in Mojave 3. Shortly thereafter, Wilson began collaborating with drum & bass producer and engineer Joe Gray on more rhythm based, yet still atmospheric productions. Too Scared to Breath features the voice of Seefeel’s Sarah Peacock and sounds not unlike prime Autechre and Aphex. Militia (Dynamic Warfare) on the other hand mirrors the post-metal Dub of Techno Animal and Scorn. All of the recordings were lost until very recently when Touch recording artist Mark Van Hoen found the tracks on old CD-Rs and cassettes he was given by Wilson some years ago.

Downtime & Stone Tape Theory – audio

ZENCD151P cover (300 dpi)

KING CANNIBAL SAYS…

To coincide with my having a few days of down time due to feeling a bit ill i’ve upload sections from my next Ninja Tune release ‘Downtime’ / ‘Stone Tape Theory’. Alongside them you can hear my remix of Frankmusik’s ‘3 Little Words’ which sadly is due to remain unreleased as the whole release has been scrapped (no reflection on my work!). Yes this remix is poppy in the extreme but sometimes its good to just go with the flow and serve the tune you’ve been asked to work on. This was also a big thing for me as it is the first ‘proper’ drum & bass track i’ve ever attempted.

You can check the myspace player here.

In other news i’ve also just returned from 2 days in Switzerland (for LUF) and Belgium (De Kreun). I can’t say i’m completely 100% happy with both gigs due to encountering some issues with Ableton causing certain audio sections to start cutting out and some problems with one of my midi controllers at LUF due to someone throwing a glass of beer at the stage causing some of the buttons to become un-responsive. Still i went on to turn out a set well over 2 hours long, more then twice what i was initially asked to do. Lets hope i can address these issues before the next two gigs in Bristol & Brixton over Halloween weekend.
