Free King Cannibal – Opening The Crypt Door

KING CANNIBAL STACKS…
Upon recently observing it was 10 years since my first ever release . I decided it was time to go back and upon up the vaults. Upon finding some mashups even i had forgotten about i thought i’d upload them to soundcloud and share. There are currently a free download link for these, but as ever these things are always limited.

The first was created around the time of Grinted Teeth & Brawlsville and is a hidden track on that CD, from back around 2005.

The Second is from slightly later yet carrying on the vibe of southern hospitality. Master P Vs Funkarma.

King Cannibal – Aragami Style… The Teknoist Remix

Ad Noiseam,  I hope you are used to that label name as it will be getting used around here a fair bit in the near future.

Miike Teknoist contacted me last year about putting together a remix of Aragami Style, i think originally planned as part of a mix cd. I’m happy to say the release has found a home in the form of The Teknoist’s  new album ‘Trainwreck  Magnetism‘ which is available on Ad Noiseam. A tightly clenched fist of an album containing original solo tracks and remixes. Mu-Ziq, Drumcorps Hecq & Exillion also get the Trainwreck treatment. As said on the press release “The Teknoist drives one of his main points home again: however hard his music might be, it’s a world apart from just throwing fast beats around, but requires a lot of open mindedness and care. ”

Available on both CD and digital download NOW

“The Teknoist is back, and he has a posse. “Trainwreck Magnetism” not only gathers the newest composition by one of the rare musicians who can combine the words “breakcore” and “pristine”, but also his remixes for high profile friends such as Drumcorps, King Cannibal, Hecq and others. It’s hard (very), sometimes dark, often angry, but also particularly varied. A highly rewarding album which satisfy both the urge to thrash around and the need for carefully crafted music, The Teknoist’s new full-length is another crown for this pillar of the breakcore and hardcore sounds.”

Free Download : Ninja Tune XX Edits

After the release of the Way Of The Ninja mix late last year i was asked to put together some extended standalone edits of a couple highlights to send out to radio. Too good to waste the lovely people at Big Up Magazine (hey what happened to that really long interview i did when i was in SF about this time last year? ) are offering downloads of the two tracks below.

Amon Tobin – Bloodstone King Cannibal Remix teaser

KING CANNIBAL SAYS…

From CD4 of The Ninja XX Compilation here is a big chunk of my reworking of Amon Tobin’s Bloodstone, out 20th September. I’m really really happy with it, and happy it finally made it on to the compilation as it became i bit of a fight for it making the final cut (which is often going to be a struggle with a project this size). I’m sure this will be familiar to people at my recent shows.

On other Amon Tobin news an all new video for Esther is premiering on amontobin.com and ninjatunexx.com on Tuesday the 7th September.

KING CANNIBAL SHARES…
King Cannibal – Blackout by King Cannibal 3

Seems like its been a long time since anything with the name King Cannibal hit the shelves doesn’t it? Well there is a big stack of things lined up for the second half of this year including remixes for Robot Koch, Scorn, Machine Code and Amon Tobin, new material on the Ninja XX compilation (The Grind & Crawl) which some of you may recognise from my gigs this year and i’m talking to Ad Noiseam about an E.P of material for them. That is all still just on the horizon though, and what material has been out is featured on the X box title Crackdown 2 (further work on computer games is forthcoming too) so to bridge the gap feel free to grab this little reworking of Todd Terry’s drum & bass track Blackout. inspired by an old One In The Jungle mix (Or was it a Kiss mix?) by Ed Rush that used the Blackout speech, which i’d never heard before. Its quite texturally heavy as i’ve really been enjoying building my sprawling dropouts ( i say that now – i’ll regret it when it comes to playing my next material out.)

Friends Of Friends Vol.3

KING CANNIBAL SAYS…

L.A based Friends Of Friends releases a third of its on-going split release series. Jahcoozi’s Robot Koch and Mexicans With Guns are the two artists heading up this volume. I was approached to contribute a remix of Overnight just before my return trip to Low End Theory (and what a night that was) after Jahcoozi’s guest appearance on my track Murder Us. Coincidentally much like my work on our first hook up, this one fell after a trip to Berlin, hooking up with Jahcoozi’s gifted front woman Sasha Perera and a night out at the Berghain (which this time i was lucky enough to be playing at).  So much like Murder Us this continues the dark house / techno sound, this time a little looser  and a lot more intimate in sound. The release is out  October 5th, but you can preview a slice of my remix below followed by the full tracklisting.

Also both myself and mr Robot Koch are appearing  in Birmingham on July 30th, alongside Illum Sphere at Under The Counter.

5. Robot Koch – Devil Drums
6. Robot Koch – Overnight ft. Jahcoozi
7. Mexicans with Guns – Icaros (Free the Robots Remix)
8. Mexicans with Guns – Sell Your Soul ft. Tiffany Preston (Lunice Remix)

11. Robot Koch – Devil Drums (Alex B Remix)
12. Robot Koch – Overnight ft. Jahcoozi (King Cannibal Remix)

Crackdown 2

KING CANNIBAL SAYS….

I’m happy to say that my fist slice of video game music is out now! I won’t go in to the specifics of Crackdown 2, the X-Box game itself but the tracklisting is notable indeed. The Bug, El-B, Dan The Automator and plenty more tackle punk & alt classics such as Public Enemy, The Damned, 7 Seconds and The Afflicted. A Full tracklisting can be found HERE. I’ve uploaded a snippet of my first version of the Smash It Up remix,  the final version on the release is v.5 and was boiled down to keep drop outs to a minimum as well as a ton of breaks added. I do still really like this initial version still, hence me wanting people to hear it. Also this sort of thing may shed a little light on the process involved in working in this environment, as i say i completed 5 versions before Microsoft felt like it was 100% correct for the game and scene it features in. I did also attempt a remix of The Afflicted’s ‘Here Come The Cops’ and have to congratulate El-B on being able to work with the source material.   Aragami Style & A Shining Force also feature in game.

Svovelskyer over Nord-Europa

Spykidelic Writes:

Svovelskyer over Nord-Europa is my second mix for my friends Type Records:

“Svovelskyer over Nord-Europa (Sulfur Clouds over Northern Europe) was
put together as volcanic dust clouds from Iceland’s Eyjafjallajokull
volcano were descending over Northern Europe, grounding air fleet and
leaving much of Iceland covered in black ash. Much of the mix does
include music from Northern European but there’s no theme as such,
just a bunch of stuff I like that seemed to work in sequence.”

However, Supersilent canceled on the day but Dausteg went ahead at a different venue than planned. This Dausteg, which was themed on Animism Vs Artificial Intelligence, took place at Riga’s fantastic Dirty Deal Cafe venue. Grab it here Dausteg: Animism Vs A.I

Let The Night Tour pt3: Pittsburgh & Baltimore

So i’m going to bundle a few dates in together here as i’m starting to loose track a bit of both time and space. The day after Igloofest in Montreal i headed over to Pittsburgh via Detroit making my flight with minutes to spare due to the extra security. I was surprised that once over U.S airspace we wasn’t even allowed up to use the bathroom. I hope the cleaners pay extra attention to the seating on these flights.

I was surprised how Pittsburgh reminded me of Philadelphia. of course i have never actually been to Philadelphia, but like most of my knowledge of the America i base this on various TV shows & films i have seen (more of which to come at my next destination).

Pittsburgh seems like an interesting place musically, with a lot of small venues and leftfield music outlets. Less geared towards dubstep and more focussed on the noisier end of the sound spectrum, dark ill-bient and breakcore this was the first event i have ever played where not a single artist on the line-up used turntables. I’m not suggesting this was anything to do with Pittsburgh itself, but more about the company i was keeping. Whilst not being particularly breakcore myself i do enjoy playing these type of nights now that largely the breakcore scene itself is quiet and is taking on a lot of new sounds and tackling them in an interesting way.

It was a bar venue, quite different to the thousands of people out the night before but a party is a party and a good party transcends any amount of flailing arms there may be far off on the horizon. In my over excitement i managed to unplug the power to everything midst but it didn’t take a long to get everything back up and running, and i’m sure people were happy to give their ears momentary relief before the sounds slammed back in, screeching alarms sounding.

So off to Baltimore the next morning for a day off before No Rule at The Metro Gallery the next night.  Now TV over the years has taught me a few things, mostly unimportant but it has been long conspiring against the city of Baltimore. This fuelled by Ghostbeard telling me off gunfire on his first visit and him constantly reminding me not to get mugged (thanks of that….way to fill a man with confidence) left me somewhat of a nervous wreck. So i spent most of the night in the hotel room catching up with emails, some mix work i have to complete whilst on this trip and some films i’d stocked up on to get through during my downtime.  Ironically whilst making my way through HBO’s OZ that night an alarming number of actors from the Wire popped up in small roles. Obviously it was meant to be. Hide in the cheap hotel room where the toilet doesn’t flush.  I did make it out and over to Subway to stock up on some food without incident – surely the longest anyone has ever gone in that City without being beaten down.

The gig itself was probably, no definitely, the lowest turn out so far, and the smallest crowed i’ve played to in years. Not that it was a problem as long as people are there and up for it is motivation enough for me. Being so steeped in ‘club music’ its always going to be a hard sell, but i think i won over a few new people to what is possible with dubstep and made a contact at Unruly records. I got to meet local legend Scotty B who was playing support who oddly when i told him i had some of his records at home told me to take them and “throw them in the fire”. Maybe walking round in a perpetual state of heightened paranoia i’m missing out on the bmore humour.

Unruly’s blog is currently offering the recorded mix for download – so check it out, after years of fiending for their stuff it feels odd to have them talk about me

Free download…. Virgo – Canblaster remix

KING CANNIBAL SAYS…

Hot new French producer Canblaster was kind enough to put together a remix of Virgo and then allow us to share it with you.

Taking the original’s dancehallisms and pushing them in to a peak time floor filler i was really impressed by this especially considering he did this without any individual parts from myself, instead just inspired by hearing the track, he ripped apart the full mix and spun it in to something shiny and new. Jacking beats, low 808 subs and sharp claps this hits me at a place somewhere between Modeselektor and Sinden. Anyone who has come see one of my shows recently would have definitely heard this one.

Unreleased Demos & Projects: 3

KING CANNIBAL SAYS….

Another instalment in the Unreleased Demos & Projects series. This one was originally recorded for Shockout after recording an EP for them entitled Devil In The Dancehall (or was it ‘Doomsday Dancehall’?)

King Cannibal ft Early Out – Funeral Again

I believe this track entitled Funeral Again (co-incidentally recorded after 3 pretty close family funerals i attended) was due for release on a split 12″ with a Kid 606 track and a Deadbeat track but after quite a long period of nothing happening with the previous mentioned Ep (the track list of which was Aragami Style, Ferox Riddim, Ghost Train and Error Code -50) i had to pull the material.
