Let The Night Roar Official Album Launch

19 11 2009

KING CANNIBAL SAYS…

This is going to be a big one, with a special 2 hour set from myself showcasing the best of the album, its influences and a few brand new works i’ve yet to play out (yup, album 2 material on the first album’s launch party) All this alongside Coldcut’s Jon More, new Big Dada signing Offshore and a certain other (very quiet) God Of War. Its going to be a deep dark event.

Plastic People isn’t the biggest of venues and a certain amount of the door will be held back for press & industry folks so PLEASE if you want to go i’d advise booking NOW to avoid disappointment.

You can grab your tickets at this link

The Poland Report.

18 11 2009

KING CANNIBAL SAYS…

Big respect to the people in Poland who came and checked my shows out over the last two weeks.

Warsaw on the 7th, Wroclaw on the 13th and the highlight that was Bytom on the 14th. Great parties, hosted by great promoters and rammed full of great people. I had trouble packing my stuff up off the stage on the 14th due to people keep asking me to pose for photographs with them and i even had a few autograph requests, somewhat or a rarity. Playing along side Igor from fellow Ninja’s Skalpel was also a pleasure, such a humble fellow. Big thanks to Wojtek for the photographs (more of which can be seen on facebook or myspace) and also the visual artist whos name currently escapes me, he also provided most of the visuals for the Nowa Muzyka Festival earlier this year, i’m gutted the only chance i’ll get to see his work is from stills taken on the night as it does look amazing. Apologies to Marcin Kuligowski for never getting round to displaying his fan made poster for the 13th.

On the subject of posters it was equally very cool and very unnerving to see quite so many posters around with my mug splashed across them. Hopefully i’ll make it back over soon as i have caught a fair amount of press over in Poland (a lot of that down to Anna at Jazzclub). I’m not sure why Poland in particular has picked up on the album, maybe its the post industrial setting. One of the most amazing parts of the stint(s) was talking to Ola, partner of Fillip co-promoting Warsaw’s show. Its rare i get the chance to meet anyone who has actually worked in film, let alone starred alongside Steven Seagal.

The subject of area and influenced was touched upon in an interview i had this morning for The Quietus. A very long talk that seemed to fly by for me. As time progresses in this promotional drive for Let The Night Roar i’m starting to settle in to the idea of the interview now, maybe its because i’ve had more time to reflect upon the ideas behind the album and i’ve a better grip on my thoughts, lets just hope its not because i’m starting to enjoy hearing the sound of my own voice. I’ll pop a link up here when The Quietus piece goes live.

Free Frankmusik – King Cannibal Remix Download

11 11 2009

KING CANNIBAL SAYS…

Well another week, another remix has hit the skids.

I’m pretty gutted my remix of Frankmusik’s 3 Little Words isn’t going to get a release due to the whole single being scrapped. Despite it being very much a remix of a VERY poppy song, and a VERY poppy remix at that, i’m still really proud of it (this may raise a chuckle but i’m really happy with my hand clap production on this!). I’ve spoken before about the sound of a quality producer and how it should run much deeper than a single genre, and this was something that i very much kept in mind when working on this.  Another reason I’m disappointed is that its also my first venture in to working with drum & bass on a very typical level in terms of genre constraints, which is why i’ve attained permission to offer this out for a freedownload as a Wav file on the link below. Enjoy.

On a side note i don’t even have any of the promo cds sent out, so if anyone happens to have a spare copy please let me know.

Death Doom and Dubstep Desecration

KING CANNIBAL SAYS…

The last few weeks i’ve picked up a couple of doom / dubstep crossover releases, whilst the tracks are very hit and miss i’m really happy to see that more people are actually putting these sounds together . The current side of dubstep the seem to be pushing things forward at the moment are the more skippy melodic crew, so its good to see the darker half finding new sounds and shapes even if it is only a couple of releases. I’ve coincidentally enough been wrestling with my own 8 minute doom laden dubstep techno track these last few weeks myself tentatively titled ‘The Doooom’ until something better occurs to me (and it can’t include any of the words ‘dark’, ‘night’ or ‘black’ i’ve more than rinsed them enough by now).

Anyway, here are the releases i spotted.

Black Magick Society – Rituals Of Initiation Ep http://www.junodownload.com/products/1486542-02.htm

Neurosis Orchestra – Noir Desire EP

2 11 2009

KING CANNIBAL SAYS…

Audio from the forthcoming Dj Food’s ‘The Shape Of Thing That Hum’ EP is now up on Soundcloud. The release is out on December the 14th,so in the meanwhile get your ears round these. This is even more noteworthy as i was on mixing duties for the lead track  Sentinal (Shadow Guard).

Strictly Kev himself says…. “Here are 3 tracks from my next EP, streamable via Soundcloud – there 5 tracks in all with a further 3 remixes on the download. Sentinel is a collaboration with DK and GIANT is a cover of The The without the vocal which will be added to a remixed version on the album.
