The Black Sheep Bar Is A Members Only Bar, Please Bring ID (Passport, Drivers License) To Sign Up On The Night. An inconvenience but worth it for the music that’ll be vibrating through you.

All this talk of Croydon reminds us at Gods of the Channel U classic Southside Allstars- Southside, just don’t expect anything like this on the night as grime has been banned from Croydon a fact which has prevented Wonder from playing at this event. I guess nobody told them exactly who Plastician is.

“Ghislain… Poirier… and the badman…
Zulu! Revolution of the mind continue!
Spread the word!”
This is how MC Zulu, Panamanian born, Chicago raised, jumps off on the 3rd single from Ghislain Poirier’s No Ground Under (ZEN138). ‘Go Ballistic’ is a soca drenched club banger that unashamedly blows up the spot. MC Zulu comes through with a melodic hype vocal that keeps energy high in the mix. Having released many solo efforts plus collaborations with Aceyalone, Kush Arora and DJ C, MC Zulu is hot property these days (just check his recent feature in XLR8R).
Remixers Toddla-T and Duckbeats give the beat a house shuffle treatment that rivals the original in dance floor mayhem. Not surprising since Toddla-T has been making in roads remixing Hot Chip, Tricky, Little Dragon, Roisin Murphy and Kid Acne as well as doing some production on the upcoming Roots Manuva album, Slime and Reason. Duckbeats is Chris Duckenfield, a seasoned veteran of electronic boogie music from the old school WARP roster as RAC and one of the house heads behind SWAG.
King Cannibal is a new signing to Ninja Tune (keep an ear out for the upcoming ‘Aragami Style’ single) and he toughens up the track to a near techno frenzy of hard beats and defunct rave noises that takes away some of the joyousness of the original and replaces it with something a little more menacing.
Ghislain Poirier is good at finding underground talent and enlisted a buddy by the name of Tony-O, from Parisian crew Ego6, to round out these remixes. He peps it up and plays on it’s double time soca feel for an over the top interpretation that makes you understand why Ghislain was attracted to him in the first place.
Another underground party smashing hit from Ghislain Poirier. GO BALLISTIC!
We are very proud to present to you the approved artwork of the first King Cannibal 12″ for Ninja Tune, designed by visual artists and long time Warp collaborators Flat-E who managed to squeeze in this beauty between London Sinfonietta shows and work for Mighty Boosh director Paul King’s new project.
Due out Sept. 29th the 12″ will feature the great anticipated ‘Aragami Style’ a tribute of sorts to the early work of Nico & No U Turn records, on the A side and gothic dubstep killer ‘Flower Of Flesh And Blood’ on the B. Both tracks have been receiving huge support from dejays worldwide including regular airings on Mary Anne Hobb’s BBC radio 1 ‘Experimental Show‘ but we at Gods would like to personally thank Amon Tobin who’s love for Aragami Style has played a big part in getting the King Cannibal album off (currently under construction) of the ground. Promo versions of the 12″ turned up a couple of days ago and are sounding suitably fierce.
2 Very short video clips from King Cannibal’s special one off ‘drum & bass classics’ set at Truck Festival 2008. Great fun was had by all and that particular stage even had a long queue to enter. Big ups to Destiny Towers for sorting the Barn Stage. There may be audio of the set to come, so keep your eyes peeled.
